Uganda Church Roof Project
In a village on the outskirts of Soroti, there is a community of Christians that meet in a church without a roof. It is very common for churches to have grass roofs. Although grass roofs offer some protection from the sun and elements, they do not hold up against strong winds and rain. This causes leaks and damage to the church itself. This church has been working for about ten years to acquire the funds to build the walls of the church. However, they do not have the funding for the roof yet. Churches in Uganda are essential because of the lack of availability of Bibles in their native tongues. People depend on coming together to hear the word of God. Currently they have provided themselves with a little shade my placing a temporary grass roof in the center of the church structure. The people cram themselves together in the shade and must move with the shade as the sun moves. Church services typically last several hours, and the people have to try to keep themselves out of the direct sunlight. It is our goal to raise enough funds to cover the cost of providing a metal roof for this church.
