Our target area in this desert for the water well project is a 4-hour drive by road from Multan city.
Before the separation of Pakistan in 1947 Thar and Cholistan were part of India and Hidu were living there. Now the Hindu population is 52 million and the Christian Population is 33 million in Pakistan. According to the Joshua Project, 97 percent of Hindus are unreached in Pakistan. 60 percent of their population lives in the desert of Pakistan. They feel the freedom to practice their religious activities in the desert away from the Muslim community. This community is living under the poverty line. They have their own culture and hard to live in cities. They are even afraid of forced conversion to Islam. Muslims kidnap Hindu girls and forcibly marry them to convert to Islam.
These people do not have income in the desert so they have goats for milk needs or other animals, They also work in the fields of Muslim landlords and have a low income so they do not have a water source. Mostly Muslim landlords give them access to clean water on their premises but women are afraid to go there because of the rape fear or forced conversion. Therefore women walk in groups to get water. They walk 5 to 20 kilometers to get clean drinking water for their family. Because of long-distance mostly they depend on rain ponds or nearby canals to drink and they get sick.
More than 70% of Tharparkar’s population has no access to safe drinking water. Instead, people drink rainwater that is collected and stored over time which can become toxic. The lack of clear drinking water is stated to be one of the major causes of disease and health problems in Thar. More than 500 children died as a result of malnutrition last year due to the scarcity of resources and clean drinking water according to the 2011 National Nutritional Survey.

 

There will be no stipulations for using the well.  Anyone who needs clean water can have access. Heart to Serve Missions desires to improve the lives of the people in Pakistan and show them the love of Jesus Christ.

The estimation of cost to provide a well to this community is $3,950.00-$4,200.00.
